The 8th China Commercial Vehicle Development Forum was held in Jinan, Shandong China from July 23 to 24, 2015. This conference is hosted by Jinan Municipal People’s Government and co-organized by China National Heavy Duty Truck Group. On the afternoon of July 23, Justin Tao successfully delivered a speech entitled “Building a Lean Supply Chain for Commercial Vehicles in China”.
Justin’s speech is divided into three parts: the challenges of China’s commercial vehicle supply chain, the implementation of the lean supply chain of China’s commercial vehicles and case analysis. A Lean Supply Chain Case for a Tier 2 and Tier 3 Supplier of Commercial Vehicles.
Justin pointed out that many suppliers still adopt traditional production methods, with long delivery cycles and excessive inventory. Quality problems at each supplier stage have a huge impact on the overall quality and cannot meet the development needs of commercial vehicles. Subsequently, Justin introduced the concepts and principles of lean, and proposed three steps to extend the improvement to suppliers, and combined with cases, introduced the lean method to improve the supply chain. In the end, Justin concluded that the essence of lean is timely delivery and built-in quality, and commercial vehicle parts manufacturers must match the lean thinking of commercial vehicle manufacturers. Justin’s experience shows that Chinese parts factories at different levels can accept lean in order to meet the needs of commercial vehicle manufacturers with short delivery times and high quality.
